Memories of a Shieldmaiden

There were a few iterations of how I wanted to tell this story before it ended up coming back to a fairly “standard” prose narrative. But if you thought “The Empire” was preachy, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. Enjoy this classic medieval fantasy short story where some of the dark-edginess of modern culture has finally gotten through to me.

Watch Out

With all the fuss about smart watches these days (disclaimer: I’m on my third pebble), I wanted to highlight their darker side in a short story. Ended up showing some of humanity’s darker side too, so as to not make the watches look too bad.

Heroes of the Storm – Dragon Shire Origin Story

At the start of this year I was really enjoying Heroes of the Storm, a new DotA-clone by Blizzard Entertainment. I was even going to write a review before the beta came out, but then the beta re-worked my favorite hero and I lost interest (even though he was too powerful, so he deserved it). Before I started drafting the review though, I wrote some HotS fan-fic on a flight somewhere. Mostly because of the challenge, this isn’t a deep and lore-driven world like the three it’s based on. But I overcame that, to write this backstory for the map “Dragon Shire”.

Orthodox and Reformed Scrum, a Retrospective

I have recently been doing a lot of Scrum process at work. Enough to make me feel entitled to critique it1. I figure that so long as we’re being assessed on our implementation of the Scrum process, I should be able to assess Scrum on its implementation of a software process. Note that I have already discussed the term “user story”. So I’m going to try something different today, and actually discuss salient conceptual points. Eventually.
